5-Speed 1995 Land Rover Discovery I

Starting in 2021 with a 1995 5-Speed manual, 7-cloth seat Nevada Discovery, the bumpers and rock sliders were removed, stripped and prepared for painting. A camera was used to inspect internal cavities to confirm the vehicle was free of corrosion. Cavity wax was applied internally within the doors, rockers, etc.  All fixed glass was removed and reinstalled with new OEM rubber. The Windshield glass was replaced as well. The headliner was removed and recovered. New paint was applied to the roof, bumpers, wheels and rock sliders. A 10,000lb Sherpa winch was installed hidden within the front bumper along with extensive LED lighting front and rear, controlled through an 8-position switch near the driver. A coolant temp gauge was added and a GPS digital speedometer. The sound-system was changed to an adjustable flat screen with Apple Car Play and GPS functionality. Polk Audio speakers were installed with new soldered wiring.

Once complete Great Basin Rovers in Salt Lake City completed the following mechanical work: Trailing arms, rear bushings, panhard bushings, Ignition key assembly, re-sealing the transmission case, inspected driveshafts, new transfer case mounts, inspect PTO, replace front brake rotors, pads and calipers with Defender brakes, re-packed hub bearings, flush brake system. Replace all vehicle fluids. We eliminated the cruise control system, ABS, rear wiper and rear window defroster. Our feeling was that it was going to be a fair weather vehicle only. The A.C. works well.

Work in IL included a new OEM steering box and Bosch steering pump and a Rovers North comprehensive front suspension bushing kit. An aluminum coolant tank was added, along with a new OEM grill and custom-made under bonnet insulating pad.

A new Old Man Emu spring and shock kit was installed, lifting the body as measured in the pictures, approx. 2”. The overall height is 80” measured at the roof rails. Front cloth seats have green covers and Land rover floor mats are in place in the front and second row.

Three Wavian cans are included on the rear carrier; two water and one fuel. The fuel is unused. The bolt/latch for the swing away aligns well when closing and spins into place. The bottle holder has a flip up lid that has bolts to hold additional equipment along with a third LED brake light. A tool bag with jack and all tools for changing tires is in place. All LED lighting is programmable for strobe, momentary-on and constant-on functions. The high rear lights are red. The original removable Dog Guard is present and painted to match.

Once complete we circumnavigated Lake Michigan twice on the Wisconsin Adventure Trail with no issues—approx. 2000 miles on and off-road. I’ve driven over 8000 miles in the last 18 months (CA, AZ, Utah, Colorado) and would confidently drive it anywhere in its present condition. I have a reservation for an Ineos Grenedier, so space must be made !
